I am a jewelry designer and professional photographer. My jewelry business is "De Napoli Designs" and I can be reached at elizabethorr500@aim.com and 408.364 1306 or 408.455.2893c.
When I was asked to write a bio, I suddenly felt stumped. Having been a Zen student for more than a decade, I've struggled to rid myself of titles, an ever-expanding ego, and anything that defines my personality. But since I can't refuse Suzanna Cody because she's a blessing to us all, here is my squirrel-ish bio.
I was born in the Canal Zone, Panama. I came from Moor, Spanish, Scott, and German grandparents which gave me great pause growing up. I was absolutely certain, however, that I was an Artist. Nothing made me happier than a new crayons or paints and blank paper. In high school, I easily copied Picasso's Cubist works, which later became a seed for my Cubist glass jewelry. I studied photography at California State Northridge and Art Center College of Design and after graduating, sold photographs of Jackie Onassis in Watts to Time Magazine, which did not satisfy me at all. I still wanted to be an artist and work on my own terms.
My unconscious need for color led me to write an animation script, East of the Sun, West of the Moon for Don Bluth Productions, (All Dogs Go To Heaven). They were millions into my film when Steven Spielberg came along with an idea about a Jewish mouse. Oh, well, can't blame them for going with him. I gave up show business and moved onto The San Jose Mercury News where I had an arts column for nearly six years. After my column ended, I finally became the entrepreneur I wished but in the ZEN way. I created my own line of glass jewelry, De Napoli Designs, and learned that success comes when you are truly connected with your true nature. No fanfare.
I also have just finished a comedy, Bad Ass Women, loosely based on Lysistrata, about the wives of world leaders transmuting their husbands into gentle souls. It was set for a debut for the U.N.'s Commission on the Status of Women in February, but the leaders -- all in their 80s and 90s -- were thrown in the poky for demonstrating against a leaky, nuclear power plant in Vermont.
It's a good thing I'm still a Zen student. And yes, I'm still working on my ego and love being a creative entrepreneur.
